Rama-Tut is one of the most fascinating and historically significant identities of Kang the Conqueror, the legendary time-traveling warlord of Marvel Comics.
The character's real name is Nathaniel Richards, a brilliant scientist born in a peaceful, utopian version of the 30th (or 31st) century. Bored with his perfect era, Nathaniel discovers time-travel technology and voyages back to Ancient Egypt (around 2960 BC).
After crash-landing in a Sphinx-shaped starship, he uses his futuristic weaponry and mind-controlling devices to conquer the local population, crowning himself Pharaoh Rama-Tut.
His tyrannical rule comes to an end when he clashes with the Fantastic Four, who had traveled back in time. The heroes spark a rebellion, forcing Rama-Tut to flee into the timestream.
Later in his personal timeline, this same man goes on to become Kang the Conqueror, Immortus, and the Scarlet Centurion.
The character was created by the legendary Marvel duo, writer Stan Lee and artist Jack Kirby.
He made his debut in Fantastic Four #19, the issue was published in October 1963.
He is technically the "First" Kang: from a publishing standpoint, Rama-Tut appeared in comics before Kang the Conqueror (who debuted under the name "Kang" in 1964's Avengers #8).
Marvel later connected the dots through time travel, revealing they were the exact same person at different points in life.
During his Egyptian reign, Rama-Tut tried to locate and manipulate a young mutant slave named En Sabah Nur to make him his heir. The technology Rama-Tut brought to the past ultimately triggered the mutant's powers, transforming him into Apocalypse, one of the X-Men's greatest villains.
