Tutorial: Super Sculpey, how to get a head in 32 minutes

The most boring part of this hobby is starting sculpt from scratch, the first phases of modeling are quite boring and repetitive specially when sculpting a face or other particulars.

I needed quickly a face for my next creation and didn't have time enough (while changing the child's nappy, or calming the wife because I'm always late from work ....).

Some steps for a quick easy head from scratch:

1-Turn on the Oven (130°C) time needed for the operation: 5 seconds

2-Take a old miniature, put a drop of vegetal oil (that one you use for cooking) on the face to avoid Sculpey being stuck on the miniature. Press vigorously a piece of Super Sculpey grey Firm on her face. Remove the Sculpey slowly and gently, put then the modeled Sculpey in the Oven when the temperature is 130°C and leave it for 15 minutes. Time needed: 15 minutes and 55 seconds.

3-Remove the hardened Sculpey, and look at what you get:

take another little piece of Sculpey and press it firmly into the mold just created:

remove gently the Sculpey from the mold and look what the hell is the result (left piece):

Time needed: 1 minute

4-Now you can easily adjust with few touches the face at your needs (facial expression, lips, cheekbones, eyes etc...) and remove the fins and parts not needed (borders, fins, ridges, burrs etc...)
Time needed aprx: 5 minutes

5-In the oven again, another 15 minutes at 130°C. The head is now ready, time needed: 15 minutes

Total time: 32 minutes
Ingredients: Super Sculpey few grams, 1 drop of vegetal oil or soapy water.

Have fun!
